Home defense, concealed carry, recreational shooting: Beretta pitches the 92FS Inox for all three, and this California-compliant version fits buyers with magazine limits. It is new, in 9mm, with a 4.9 inch barrel and 10 round capacity.

The slide, barrel and internal parts are stainless, and the alloy frame is anodized to match the satin stainless finish. Stippled soft rubber grips help absorb recoil and give a firm hold. The finish resists sweat and corrosion, which is good news for anyone carrying a pistol close to the body.

The open-slide, short-recoil, delayed locking-block system gives fast cycling and, in Beretta's words, exceptional accuracy and reliability. A reversible magazine release lets you use either hand to change magazines, and the ambidextrous safety-decocker works for right and left-handed shooters. A tool-free disassembly latch makes cleaning simple.

The listed weight is about 2.08 pounds, light for a full-size 92, thanks to the alloy frame. If you live outside a capacity-limited state, check whether a version with larger magazines suits you better. The pistol ships to a licensed dealer you choose, where you complete the background check and take delivery.
