How buying a gun in Alexandria works
Pick an FFL dealer near you that accepts shipped transfers and name it at checkout. We confirm their license and ship the firearm to them. Ammunition, optics and parts ship straight to your door where Louisiana law allows.
Louisiana has no permit to purchase, no registration and no waiting period. At the dealer you show photo ID, complete ATF Form 4473 and pass a NICS check. Federal law sets 21 as the minimum age to buy a handgun from a dealer, and that applies to used trade-in pistols too. If the address on your ID is out of date, ask the dealer what other government document they accept.
Dealers in these communities all work for Alexandria-area buyers:
- Pineville

- Boyce
- Woodworth
- Lecompte
- Tioga

Carrying a gun in Rapides Parish
Under Act 1 of the 2024 Second Extraordinary Session, Louisiana residents 18 and older who may lawfully possess a firearm may carry a concealed handgun without a permit, starting July 4, 2024. Louisiana State Police still issue the concealed handgun permit to applicants who complete training, and many keep it for travel. Schools, courthouses, secured airport areas and other places banned by law remain off limits. You may not carry into another person's home without consent.
Hunting near Alexandria
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries sets deer seasons by deer hunting area, and the area depends on the parish and sometimes the part of the parish. Most areas run archery from October 1, then primitive and modern firearms segments into January, with still-hunting and dog-hunting periods. Wildlife management areas have shorter schedules. Check the current LDWF regulations and deer area map for Rapides Parish before you hunt.
Alexander State Forest WMA near Woodworth and the Kisatchie National Forest districts around Rapides Parish offer public hunting. Deer area dates come from LDWF, and feral hogs are found throughout central Louisiana.
The Kisatchie National Forest headquarters is in Pineville, and pine forests and bayous spread out from both sides of the Red River.
